Senior Data/Platform Engineer

We're a remote-first Cape Town data and machine learning company. We help businesses get real value out of their data, and we work across African markets with serious, sensitive data and the stakes that come with it. We've moved tens of billions of rows and run hundreds of cloud services.

We're hiring a senior data / platform engineer to help build and run the infrastructure all of that depends on — pipelines, platforms, and getting models into production and keeping them healthy. It's a role with real ownership: you'll shape how things are built, set the standards the rest of the team works to, and make the calls that decide whether our data is something we can trust.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Design and architect scalable, high-performance data platforms on AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Building and maintaining data pipelines — ingestion, transformation, the lot — across cloud environments.
• Lead the development and implementation of robust ETL/ELT pipelines for critical data.
• Owning infrastructure: making it reproducible, reliable, and something you can actually see into when it breaks.
• Getting models into production and keeping them healthy — deployment, monitoring, and the plumbing that keeps things honest over time.
• Setting the standards the rest of the team builds on, and making sensible build-vs-buy calls.
• Managing and mentoring more junior team members — reviewing their work, unblocking them, and bringing them up to speed.
• Build and maintain infrastructure-as-code (IaC) solutions using Terraform or CloudFormation.
• Evaluate and integrate new cloud data technologies to enhance platform capabilities.
• Ensure data platform reliability, security, and compliance with industry standards.
