Design Engineer

We are seeking a mid-level Design Engineer to join our Engineering Department in Secunda, 2302, South Africa. This pivotal role is ideal for a young, charismatic, and enthusiastic structural engineer eager to specialize in temporary works design, with a particular focus on scaffolding. The successful candidate will play a crucial part in developing innovative and safe scaffolding solutions, contributing directly to the success of our challenging industrial projects.

Duties & Responsibilities

• perform scaffolding design calculations
• structural steel design of scaffolding components
• computer analysis of scaffolding structures
• travel to site as required to assist clients with designs
• on-site technical assistance during erection of structures
• request assistance with detailed explanation of technical information to clients
• understanding cost sensitivity of designs
• ethical balance of income generation vs. giving the client the best offer
• use AutoCAD for 3D modelling and drafting
• assist the sales team and technical design team with creating 3D models of existing structures
• modelling the scaffolding structure
• checking stability and strength of the scaffolding structure
• issuing drawings to the sales and technical teams

Additional Requirements

Previous sales experience will be an advantage.

Additional Exposure

This role offers unique exposure to various operational aspects, including:

• Warehouse related activities, such as stock checks, stock counts, designing with available material only, and material stacking and storage principles.
• Back end admin related activities, such as appropriate filing of designs, calculations and drawings, and invoice and quotation assistance.
